About Us
Our purpose
The world’s accelerating electrification and industrialisation requires more steel. We will supply the steelmaking coal needed to make it.
Steel is essential for bridges, factories and buildings, electric vehicles, machinery, and renewable power generation plants. It takes around 220 tonnes of coal to make one single wind turbine. More steel will require more steelmaking coal. There’s no economical alternative and won’t be for decades. At Valory Resources, we’re serving a cleaner future, delivering a critical resource for the way we want to live while giving back to the host communities in which we work through investment and job creation.
Working together for win-win outcomes
“Valory is committed to reciprocating the support that our host communities have shown the company.”

Community first
A priority for Valory is to be recognised as a respected corporate citizen. We have secured the support of our host communities including government representatives, indigenous parties, local citizens and peak bodies by taking a collaborative and caring approach.
Valory seeks to contribute to the well-being of our host communities by engaging government at all levels, the local communities where we operate, and indigenous groups with open, timely, professional, frequent and programmed communications and events.
Our projects will make a significant contribution to local, regional and national economies, generating scores of direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs in communities where mines have either closed or otherwise disappeared.
In addition, other funds will flow indirectly into the community including accommodation providers, meals providers, laundry services, labour hire of small business, and with suppliers of mining consumables and services.
Valory has committed to developing a world class training facility in Grande Cache to train, upskill and serve the careers of the people who work at our projects.
Environmentally-minded
Valory’s underground mines will produce high quality steelmaking coal. Surface disturbance, waste rock, and other environmental impacts will be minimized while opportunities to enjoy Alberta’s great outdoors will maximized.
Advanced technology
This technology includes state-of-the-art environment monitoring equipment and remote-controlled unmanned mining and conveyor plant, thereby, making mining operations safer, more efficient and better for the environment. This revolutionary underground mining technology is inherently more flexible without suffering many of the disruptions that can affect other underground mining methods – such as those arising from geological or geotechnical discontinuities.
Valory has appointed Mountain Trail Resources (MTR) to be the mining operator for our mines. MTR has a significant track record of success in developing, permitting, and operating underground coal mines safely, productively and profitably.
MTR will manage and oversee full project development and operations, including the identification and procurement of key personnel, and suppliers of mining equipment, including providing access to the PBE Mining Technology. The primary objective of MTR is to ensure world best safety and cost effective extraction of the steel making coal resources being exploited for the benefit of all stakeholders.
