The project is permitted to produce 1.3 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of run-of-mill (ROM) premium, low volatile (PLV), low ash coal for export to overseas steel manufacturers and is linked by rail to coal ports in British Columbia.
Valory has a reserve (pursuant to NI 43-101 – Technical Report) which underpins a Project period of 10 years, but Valory also has access to additional resources and intends to expand the operations to 15 years.
To increase via high wall mining
Valory has a permit for 1.3Mt and is entitled to expand this to 1.8Mt (pursuant to local laws)
Summit expects mine life to exceed 10 years.
Excluding government and vendor royalties
Mining in the coal deposits surrounding the town of Grande Cache has been taking place since the 1940’s. The town and surrounding infrastructure have been continually developed over that timeframe, with all associated social and industrial infrastructure in place to support the incremental activities that the development of Mine 14 would create.
Importantly the town hosts a highly skilled workforce – and underground mining has taken place in the region throughout this whole period.
